New Designers...

Well I had some brilliant news this week, I found out I'd been chosen to exhibit at this years New Designers in London. Very very excited for this amazing opportunity to exhibit in the capital! For now though I'm getting busy sorting my disaster of a website and designing business cards for the event! My website is starting to come together so I'll let you know the address once its finished! =)

Along with my main final piece I made three scarves which are slightly more practical....hope you like them :)

I also had the lovely Fran model my work for me and was very happy with the results. My large piece is not the easiest to wear so I think she did a brilliant job!

I had my work photographed earlier this week and finally picked them up today to use in my portfolio and business cards etc. Very very happy with them so thought I'd give you a sneak preview of my favourites.

A day spent drawing...

Well I decided I'd better get started on my portfolio this week, a job I'd been putting off for some time now. Mainly because (anyone sharing a studio with me will know this already) I'm not a huge fan of drawing. I know this would seem very odd for someone who loves art...but I just haven't been able to find a style to suit before so I tend to just throw myself straight into the making part and see what happens! For this week though I decided to stop the moaning and just get on with it...I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome so I thought I'd post a few pictures.

One long overdue....

I know I haven't posted for a few days but to be perfectly honest its because I haven't achieved very much...(well anything good anyway) so didn't want to bore you with the tales of my fails! (if the art thing fails maybe I could just become a poet instead :D) I did get onto a bit of a winner yesterday/last night so hopefully by tonight I will have some lovely photographs for you though!
As far as my plan for a project a week is going....I'm failing a little bit on that too! I've really got into this weeks work now and want to give myself a few more days before I write it off and started something new.... although I do have a few ideas for my next section which I'm quite excited to get going with!

Paper geniuses...

Well I spent most of yesterday looking in the library and on the internet for artists who work with paper. 'WOW'....is all I can say. Its a medium that I've never really been interested in before so hadn't realised quite what amazing things were going on out there. The photographs below are the work of Richard Sweeney, one of my favourite finds of the day!

I ended the day with lots of inspiration and a few ideas in my head where to start making today so I'm off to the studio now to see how it works out!

Paper Models...

Just some quick photographs of my paper models from yesterday...just about to head to the library for some inspiration as to what I'm gonna do with them next!

A change in direction...

I made a decision today....if I want to get the most out of my initial research then I really do have to keep going back to it rather than leaving it behind at the first sign of something new. Sooooo...I've decided for the next four weeks I'm going to complete a a mini project each week, all starting back from my original point! Sounds like a good plan...whether this will happen in reality is a different matter, but for now I'm sticking with it!

So today I followed the plan and went back to the first page in my sketchbook, Venice architecture photographs! This time though I looked at some of the smaller details and shapes and cut them out of paper...folded them, glued them...and generally messed around for a while until I found some shapes I liked! Now these will be the starting point for this weeks work (and yes I do realise that its Wednesday and not actually the start of a week...I've always been a little slow =) ) So, for now, the plan is going to plan....

A very productive day...

Well today's been a rather productive day! =) First thing I made my way to Birmingham to see 'Lost in Lace', forget being lost in lace....I got lost trying to find the place =) I did get to see lots of beautiful work once I found it though so I definitely advise any of you who haven't been to plan a visit soon!!!

Although I was tempted to waste the rest of my day wandering around Birmingham I decided to be good and get straight back to the studio and workshops. An afternoon of bashing metal later resulting in a headache and half a final piece! I haven't got a final photograph of what I made but there's a quick phone photo below of the individual pieces I made. 

The first of many I hope...

Well, I'm very new to this blogging malarky so you might have to bare with me but I'm giving it a go =)

My main aim for the day was to do some wire knitting and a wool and wax neck piece, I managed to complete the neck piece which I was really pleased with but have since been a little distracted setting this up....maybe tomorrow eh?!?!

A small section of my neck piece, made from an unwanted Christmas jumper (sorry mum) and wax. Only an initial idea but I was pleased with the overall effect =)
